11:30 Does This Fur Make Me Look Fat?
Have you ever said this: “He’s not fat, he’s fluffy.” “She isn’t fat, she is just big boned.” Did you know that 50 million dogs are Overweight or Obese, based on 2018 pet population projections provided by the American Pet Products Association (APPA)? That’s about 56% of the dogs in this country. Obesity is directly linked to your pet’s quality (and length) of life! (Show the canine body condition chart, so people can look at the chart and then at their dog). Health issues caused by obesity are numerous and include diabetes; knees and hips painful from the excess weight; arthritis; damage to joints, bones and tendons; anesthesia risks; impacts on breathing; surgeries are more difficult when dog is obese; decreased stamina and loss of interest in activity; extra work on the heart – heart disease and high blood pressure; decreased liver function. Your dog depends on you to make the right choices for him/her. The one thing everyone wants is more time with their dog; keeping them at a healthy weight is the one thing you can control that can help you achieve that goal! Please join APARN for this important and beneficial presentation!

Agility & Disc Dog Demo Course

Phoenix Area Disc Dogs
You’ve seen them on TV and at the park: an excited dog races out, makes a spectacular leap and catches a flying disc mid-air; then he runs right back to the disc thrower for another round of the action-packed game. That’s Disc Dog. Are you ready to see some incredible dogs show us all they’ve got?! After the demo, stick around and find out how you and your pooch can also get involved in the popular sport of Disc Dog – anyone (and any dog) can play!

Jumping Chollas Agility
Students from Jumping Chollas from beginners class to advanced class will be showing off their skills on a small agility course. Agility is, at its core, a dance with dog and handler where you and your dog move at a run while the dog performs obstacles and the handler guides the dog using various handling skills. You will get to see how the dogs are taught some of the obstacle and handling skills. They will also have some advanced dogs who will show you what this sport looks like in its more advanced classes. Then they will give some of the spectators a chance to try their dogs on some of the obstacles under the supervision of our students.
